| Hike
to the top of Black Mountain on the historic River Mountain Trail and take in some
amazing views. With a 1,200ft elevation change this hike is sure to provide a workout
while taking in the desert landscape. For those looking for a more relaxing hike
you can choose the easier version and start out at the top of Red Mountain, traverse
your way across to the summit of Black Mountain then descent down to the base. For
those who want a workout we can start at the base of Black Mountain ascend to the
summit overlook and then back down the side of the mountain.
Your trip will begin at our shop where you’ll meet your guide and be given
a backpack with water, snacks and lunch. Once you decide where you want to start
your trip you will be shuttled to the mountain, which just happens to be right behind
our shop. After starting your hike, your guide will be sure to describe the historic
significance of the trail, talk about the surrounding area and how it was created
millions of years ago by volcanoes (yes you will be hiking along side a dormant volcano).
Once you have reached the summit of Black Mountain, you’ll take in the most
spectacular 360° view of southern Nevada. This perfect spot allows you to view
Boulder City, Las Vegas, Lake Mead and Eldorado Valley as far as the mountains allow
you to see.
After taking a much needed break to site see you’ll begin your descent down
the River Mountain Trail on the side of Black Mountain. While hiking be sure to observe
some of the wildlife Nevada has to offer. Many times through out the spring, summer
and early fall, bighorn sheep can be seen along the sides of the mountains, along
with desert tortoise, jack rabbits, whiptail lizards, roadrunners and much more.
